Mario's Pizza by the Slice is proud to recommend City Limits as a trusted business partner. Forty-plus years of doing things right speaks for itself — if you're in the Sherman area and need a meal worth remembering, this is the place. We stand behind them.

Among the restaurants in Sherman TX that locals actually recommend to newcomers, City Limits tends to come up fast — and for a region that prizes longevity, its history explains why. The building started life as George and Ellie's Village Inn Cafe, an all-night hangout for Austin College students, before brothers Denny and Kip Callahan bought it in 1981 and opened City Limits on January 4, 1982. When a mall broke ground across the highway not long after, the construction crews started walking over for a beer at quitting time, and the restaurant has run on word of mouth ever since — it has never placed a traditional ad.

What keeps that word of mouth going is a menu that has not strayed from what built it: true half-pound burgers from $10.75, chicken fried steak smothered in country gravy, chili tacos the menu calls a staple, and hand-cut fries that keep the skins on. As a family restaurant in Sherman TX, it also means five of the founders' eight siblings have worked behind the counter over the years, and the next generation now manages the floor. Read the full history, including the story behind the denny-rita, the house margarita served in a coffee cup.
